This image was taken at the rim overlooking the canyon. It was cloudy out the whole day with thunderstorms all around. For just a few seconds the clouds broke and the sun lit up the trees. It was near sunset and the sun was at a low angle, which gives a more dramatic lighting of the rocks and trees.
