I saw this beautiful stand of aspen trees across the lake. There were wonderful tree reflections in the water that looked "painterly" to me. I wanted to break up the reflections so the image wouldn't be too static. I found a small log in the lake that I put in the middle of the foreground to give some depth and interest to the composition. I usually don't put subjects in the center of an image, but here I think it is balanced by the trees and reflections.
