Description: It was late in the afternoon and the last rays of sunlight were bathing these bushes in the Merced. The dogwood leaves on the opposite shore were also lit and the composition was irresistible. The difficulty is in the printing, as the sun-lit bushes and the shadowed trees in the background have too much overall contrast, while at the same time having rather low local contrast. To print this image and bring out both the details in the foreground bushes and the tree trunks and dogwood leaves in the background, I have to use a high contrast grade paper and do a lot of burning, dodging, bleaching and spotting. |
