    Description: It might be coincidence, but the images I
      took on my "Spanish adventure" almost all had arches in them,
      either natural or man-made. This image of an
      archway in a castle in Baiona, Spain, is one example of the man-made type.
      It was most difficult to take, as the
      courtyard I was in was rather small, even for my 120 mm wide-angle lens
      (for a 4x5 view camera). I wanted to capture the entire entryway as well
      as the two pillars. I must have spent close to an hour in this spot,
      trying different compositions, vertical and horizontal, with the sun out
      as well as in total shadow. I wanted a feeling of depth to the image, and
      so I like this image with the sun lighting the far side of the arch. The weathered stones that make up the walls and
      columns of the castle are also very interesting. However, the lighting was bright
      with severe shadows to deal with in the printing of this image. |
