Dunes, Mountains, and Sky, Death Valley, CA

This is one of the latest images I have taken of the Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley National Park. Normally, I don't include much sky in my Death Valley photographs, because the sky is usually not a major contributor to the composition. But on this trip i had rain and storm clouds on the first two days of my stay. This image is a "grand landscape" view of Death Valley, showing the dunes against the mountains, with a large, interesting sky. The image is made up of three distinct areas: the dunes, the mountains, and the clouds in the sky. Each region has it's own local contrast and contrast with the adjacent region.
