Dunes and People

This is one of a series of photographs I took in Death Valley of the sand dunes in the first light of morning. I used the Pentax 6x7 rollfilm camera on this trip, as it has the largest rollfilm negative available and is easier to handle than the view camera on the dunes. I was keeping ahead of this group of tourists for the entire morning until I ran out of film. When I finished putting a new roll of film in the camera, they had gone ahead of me. I waited until they reached the lit area of the sand dune in front of me and took this picture, framing them in the sand dune. The shadow seems to be leading themto the left out of the frame.
